METU TECHNOPOLIS AR-GE PROJECT

Geoinsight has been operating a smart city Project in METU Technopolis, “Barrier-free Smart City Analytics GIS Software database and System Architecture”

In our world where urbanization has been increasing along with more than 50% of the world's population living in cities, smart and sustainable urban planning is a subject that arises in both scientific and social development discourses.

In European context, the smart city concept goes beyond the use of information communication technologies for more efficient use of resources and less emissions. It means, for example, smarter urban transport networks, renewed water networks and waste disposal facilities, and more efficient methods for lighting and heating buildings. Accordingly, smartness includes more interactive and sensitive city management, safer public spaces, and meeting the needs of the aging population.

Awareness of participation in social policies produced for the disabled and other disadvantaged groups has started to emerge and policy documents generated with the participation of stakeholder groups have been produced.

There are two basic innovation elements to be brought by this project as a GIS-based participatory accessibility data infrastructure model:

  • New perspective on accessibility analysis: Digitized accessibility research as a requirement of digital transformation with today's understanding of "Smart City" concept

  • Data production and planning based on participation: “Participatory Digitallization”

 

The aim of the Project is to create a system architecture through processing field data and stakeholder opinions for the barriers in urban environment against persons with reduced mobility including disabled, elderly and children.
